Be careful in your abundance that you do not forget the Lord your God. This is something that many Americans would be wise to listen to.
Also, the idea of having a day of Sabbath is so difficult in our culture. How do we handle this? During the time this was written, what did they do on the Sabbath? I mean, they still had to eat and manage their own houses, right? They had to take care of their children and livestock. Does that mean that all the food had to be prepared before the Sabbath day? Surely, this doesn’t mean that we are to sit at home all day and do nothing. But, if we are to cease from our labors, how does that translate into our lives today? A day of nothing but fun? Even then work has to be done. We still have to get in the car, or make lunch, take showers, brush our teeth. This is something that goes around and around in my head.
