Abraham was not selfish. He allowed Lot to choose the land he wanted first. Of course, Lot chooses the best looking, more fertile land. Abram then allows all the livestock and people that he rescues from Chedorlaomer, to go free and go back to where they came from. He expects nothing in return. He did the right thing and that is enough for him.
